ايه الهيئات المسؤولة عن الايليتس ؟؟
IELTS is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL
Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP: IELTS
Australia.

أنواع الايلتس :
Academic and General Training
IELTS is available in two formats – Academic and General
Training.
The Academic Reading and Writing tests assess whether
a candidate is ready to study or train in the medium of English
at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Admission to
undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on
the results of these tests.
The General Training Reading and Writing tests are not designed
to test the full range of formal language skills required for
academic purposes, but emphasise basic survival skills in a
broad social and educational context. General Training is
suitable for candidates who are going to English-speaking
countries to complete their secondary education, to undertake
work experience or training programmes not at degree level, or
for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to inform the test
centre whether they wish to take the Academic or General
Training Modules. Centres are not responsible for providing
this information. The General Training Module is not offered
at all test administrations.

How would it help me?
IELTS covers all four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking,
IELTS is offered in two test formats: Academic is suitable for candidates planning to undertake higher education study; General Training is suitable for candidates planning to undertake non-academic training, or for immigration or work purposes.  
Candidates are given a score from 1 to 9 which shows their ability in each of the four tests, and an overall score of 1 to 9.
Listening 4 sections, 40 items, 40 minutes

Academic Writing 2 tasks (150 & 250 words),60 minutes

countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK
and the USA. It is also recognised by professional bodies,
immigration authorities and other government agencies.

Test Scores
IELTS provides a profile of a candidate’s ability to use English.
Candidates receive scores on a Band Scale from 1 to 9.

Tests

Each candidate takes four tests, one in each of the four skills –
Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

1- Listening

The Listening test takes around 30 minutes. There are
40 questions and four sections.
The Listening test is recorded on a CD and is played
ONCE only.
During the test, time is given for candidates to read the
questions and write down and then check their answers.
Answers are written on the question paper as candidates listen.
When the recording ends, ten minutes are allowed for
candidates to transfer their answers to an answer sheet.

A range of native-speaker English accents are used in the
recordings which reflects the international usage of IELTS.
A variety of questions are used, chosen from the following types:
• multiple choice
• short-answer questions
• sentence completion
• note/summary/flow-chart/table completion
• labelling a diagram
• classification
• matching

Marking and assessment
One mark is awarded for each correct answer in the 40-item test.
A confidential Band Score conversion table is produced for each
version of the Listening test, which translates scores out of 40
into the IELTS 9-band scale.

2- Reading

The Reading test takes 60 minutes. There are 40 questions,
based on three reading passages with a total of 2,000 to
2,750 words

All answers must be entered on an answer sheet during the
60-minute test. No extra time is allowed for transferring answers.

Task types
A variety of questions are used, chosen from the following types:
• multiple choice
• short-answer questions
• sentence completion
• note/summary/flow-chart/table completion
• labelling a diagram
• matching headings for identified paragraphs/ sections of the
text
• identification of writer’s views/claims – yes, no or not given
• identification of information in the text – true, false or not
given
• classification
• matching lists/phrases

3- Writing

The Writing test takes 60 minutes. There are two tasks to
complete. It is suggested that about 20 minutes is spent on
Task 1 which requires candidates to write at least 150 words.
Task 2 requires at least 250 words and should take about 40
minutes.

Answers must be given on the answer sheet and must be written
in full. Notes or bullet points in whole or in part are not
acceptable as answers.

Marking and assessment
Each task is assessed independently. The assessment of Task 2
carries more weight in marking than Task 1.

• Task Achievement
• Coherence and Cohesion
• Lexical Resource
• Grammatical Range and Accuracy

Task 2 responses are assessed on:
• Task Response
• Coherence and Cohesion
• Lexical Resource
• Grammatical Range and Accuracy

4- Speaking

The Speaking test takes between 11 and 14 minutes and
consists of an oral interview between the candidate and an
examiner.
All Speaking tests are recorded.

Task types
There are three parts to the test and each part fulfils a specific
function in terms of interaction pattern, task input and candidate
output.
In Part 1 candidates answer general questions about
themselves, their homes/families, their jobs/studies, their
interests, and a range of familiar topic areas. This part lasts
between four and five minutes.

In Part 2 the candidate is given a verbal prompt on a card and is
asked to talk on a particular topic. The candidate has one minute
to prepare before speaking at length, for between one and two
minutes. The examiner then asks one or two rounding-off
questions.

In Part 3 the examiner and candidate engage in a discussion of
more abstract issues and concepts which are thematically linked
to the topic prompt in Part 2. The discussion lasts between four
and five minutes.

Four Vaccines Approved for Treating the 2009 H1N1 Influenza

On September 15, the FDA announced that it has approved 4 vaccines against the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus, formerly known as “swine flu.” The vaccine lots are expected to be available and distributed within the next 4 weeks.

FDA Commissioner of Food and Drugs Margaret A. Hamburg, MD, said she thought the approval was good news for the nation’s response to the H1N1 influenza virus. “This vaccine will help protect individuals from serious illness and death from influenza,” she said.

The approval comes at a time when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reporting that visits to physicians around the country for influenza-like illness are increasing and are higher than expected at this time of year. The vaccines that are currently available against 3 seasonal influenza virus strains will not protect against the 2009 H1N1 virus.

The FDA said that the vaccines, based on early data, effectively elicit an immune response in most healthy adults about 8 to 10 days after vaccination. Clinical studies are still underway to produce an optimal dose for children, with results expected in the near future.

Meanwhile, the CDC stresses that influenza is primarily spread through person-to-person contact, by the coughing or sneezing of infected people, and recommends that infected people stay home and limit their contact with others to keep from infecting them.

The newly approved vaccines are being made by CSL Limited, MedImmune LLC, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited, and Sanofi Pasteur Inc. All 4 firms reportedly use the same processes to manufacture the H1N1 vaccines. As with the seasonal influenza vaccine, some lots of the H1N1 vaccine will contain the preservative thimerosal and others will not. The FDA has been continuing its efforts toward reducing thimerosal use in vaccines.

The FDA warns that persons with known allergies to chicken eggs or any other substance in the vaccine should probably not be vaccinated, although in the ongoing clinical trials, the vaccines have been well tolerated. The most common adverse effect is soreness at the injection site; other adverse effects can include a mild fever, body aches, and fatigue for a couple of days after vaccination. For the nasal spray delivery system, the most common adverse effects were runny nose, nasal congestion in all ages, sore throats in adults, and fever in children aged 2 to 6 years.

The FDA is working with different organizations regarding adverse event monitoring, information sharing, and an overall analysis during and after the 2009 H1N1 vaccination program, according to the news release. “As with any medical product, unexpected or rare serious adverse events may occur,” the FDA notes
